Paul M. Ellender
By Martin EllenderArtist / Cartoonist / Engineer. Thats what Paul likes to put on his CV or any letters of introduction. Having completed 54 orbits of our local star Paul has pulled together a wealth of experience that has allowed him to create the totally new cartoon style in Rallyist and later the business of Rallyist Publications.

Apprenticed at Pendhill Engineering Blackburn, Paul was skilled in all the shopfloor skills of Turning, Milling, Welding Sheet Metal and Fitting with all these skills being very soon called together into his great passion of Motor racing. PME Engineering was created to channel these skills following Pauls enrolement at Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, Starting with FF 1600 then swopping over to Prod Saloons racing with a Vauxhall Chevette and then an Alfasud. Paul enjoyed 3 wins.

PME Engineering UnitDuring the recession of the early 80's however Paul pulled back from racing and focused his resources into manufacturing, operating PME Engineering as a 'Jobbing shop' and finally as a Machine Tool Sales operation. PME Engineering ended this branch of activity in 1984, and Paul continued as an engineer working on the devolopment of Beer Pumps and Wine Engines for the Catering industry (Paul made the Beer Pumps used on set in Emerdale Farm!!!) , casting machines for use in Foundies, Development work on a new Fire Hose Nozzel for the Home Office,  Mining equipment, Turfting Machine, and Front Bearing Housings for Civil Jet Engines (RR). Later while employed at Rolls Royce Paul trained as a Business Improvement Specialist.

The Cartooning started as a result of being an Event and Sector Marshal at Clitheroe & District Motor Club. Introducing Paul to the Characters in the Sport. From this the artwork developed in the club Magazine and cartoons later found there way into British Rally Championship Programmes and the official Magazine of Starchaser 'Ignition'. Several attempts were made to find a publisher with no success all the big publishing house quickly backing away from anything to do with rallying(??) In 2007 however, at the Autosport show a new idea was planted and work started on The Rallyist and Rallyist Publications. Both launched in 2009 at the Chatsworth Rallyshow.

Paul M. Ellender Artist CartoonistPME Engineering never truely went away it just changed direction as an idea for a radical space craft design came into being. The seed of the concept came to Paul while driving to Brands Hatchvery very early one September morning and is based on a Bedford CF van and trailer. The idea later became Broadsword 5 and will be the basis for a book planned for late 2012. Pauls interest in Manned spaceflight has always been in the background. Fired as have many by Gerry Anderson, and Apollo. Just being a fan however is not enough and plans are underway for an possible X-prize Lunar project by 2013. Paul has also participated and supports Starchaser Industries (Manchester) when he can!

Work is now well underway on the next Cartoon book which will widen Rallyist Publications Market to include Motor racing with further development work in mechandice also on the drawing board. The Rallyist trade stand will continue to travel the Country spreading the word.... Oh yes, and the book range will include another Colouring book!
